Can't see the video? Watch this video now in a browser or download this video now. Toots and the Maytals are true reggae legends (more: Wikipedia, MySpace). Founder Toots Hibbert is credited with coining the word "reggae" in the band's 1968 single, "Do the Raggay." They've had more number one hit songs in Jamaica than any recording artist ever, and received a Grammy for Best Reggae Album of the Year in 2005. He was a contemporary of Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff, and was featured in Perry Henzell's seminal 1973 reggae movie "The Harder They Come" (Amazon link). I joined BBtv's London-based music correspondent Russell Porter for a visit on the venerable Mister Toots' tour bus after an amazing set at Outside Lands, and we sat down with him for a conversation about the history of reggae, and what Toots thinks about contemporary hip-hop and dancehall -- and where his legacy leads. The generous vanity intro he did for BBtv is a thing of beauty, we can all die happy now. Sponsor Note: This episode, and other BBtv music features this month, are sponsored by the Crowdfire live music social media project. You can find images, video, and audio about the band featured in today's show at Crowdfire -- here's the search link for fan-uploads related to Toots and the Maytals. Many think the world is huge, but we think it’s relative to our status as leaders; Last Month here at BadGalsRadio.com we started on our pursuit of world streaming radio dominance. yes dominance. we’ve got the BOOM, Bumper, Grill and the CHAT For Unnu; so we ask Where are the Rest of the World’s 50 Countries? Hey Big Fiddy, don’t make us come looking for ya, cause we’re gonna bone up on the list this weekend; and when we’re through, next week - the dust will start to fly and the list will grow. Remember We Need ALL 195 COUNTRIES - SO DON’T PLAY, TUNE IN to BadGalsRadio.com NOW Mama ASID and Lady D Seh So ! The Number of Countries in the World By Most Accounts, The Are 195 Countries in the World By Matt Rosenberg, About.com See More About: political geography countries Mar 18 2008 A very frequent geographical question is “How many countries are in the world?” Different numbers pop up when one inquires or reads about the number of countries in the world. Each source you use often yields a different answer. Ultimately, the best answer is that there are 195 countries in the world.United Nations There are 192 members of the United Nations. Unfortunately, the number 192 is too often used to represent the number of countries in the world. Although this number represents almost all of the countries in the world, there are still two recognized independent countries, the Vatican City and Kosovo, that are independent and are not members of the U.N. so 192 is not the number of countries in the world. U.S. Department of State The United States’ State Department recognizes 194 independent countries around the world. Their list of 194 countries reflects the political agenda of the United States of America and its allies. Missing from the State Department’s list is one entity that may or may not be considered a country, depending on who you talk to. The One Outsider Taiwan meets the requirements of independent country or state status. However, due to political reasons, it fails to be recognized by the international community as independent. Nonetheless, it should be considered as independent. Taiwan was actually a member of the United Nations (and even the Security Council) until 1971, when mainland China replaced Taiwan in the organization. Taiwan continues to press for full recognition by other countries, to become “part of the club” and fully recognized worldwide but China claims that Taiwan is simply a province of China. Thus… Your Guide considers there to be 195 countries in the world, which is probably the best current answer to the question, “How many countries are in the world?” However… Recognize that there are dozens of territories and colonies that are sometimes erroneously called “countries” but don’t count at all - they’re governed by other countries. Places commonly confused as being countries include Puerto Rico, Bermuda, Greenland, Palestine, Western Sahara, and even the components of the United Kingdom (such as Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England - they’re not fully independent countries, states, or nation-states). King Tubby and Prince Jammy, "The Poor Barber," from Dub Gone 2 Crazy (Blood & Fire, 1996)
Lots of weird sound effects in this one, including plenty of heavy machine guns.

With vocals swimming into the mystic range of Van Morrison and even... More
With vocals swimming into the mystic range of Van Morrison and even Vedder or Duritz, San Luis Obispo’s Still Time adeptly soaks up a variety of rock, folk, jazz and reggae influences and styles in the ever-widening musical tributary the band has finally arrived at with their debut album. From San Luis Obispo, on California’s central coast, Still Time released their first album ‘Stream of Consciousness’ in 2007. Through word of mouth they’ve sold a few thousand copies of the release and are playing all the perfect venues in California, including lots of recognizable events like the Welcome Week Block Party at Cal Poly SLO. Still Time really does do a perfect job representing the amalgamation of laid back styles in this state that you’ll find people listening to, from the beaches to the mountains, and even jamming to out in the desert. Their CD solidly hits the spot, reminding me of road trips checking out bands from SLO and numerous other coastal towns during the over-extended college years. You can pick up this track as well as the album at e-music , cdbaby, or iTunes. This ones for LeRoi! Melodic Dub | With his “Dub Culture”-Single Echo_TM provides Offbeat-Lovers with a real groovy and dubby anthem. While the bassline rolls warm on the floor, melodic vocoder-vocals grab your attention. In germany, we call those intense and pop-orientated tunes an “Ohrwurm”, which means hard-translated: worm in the ear. It’s difficult to get rid off an “Ohrwurm”-Tune, because you discover yourself whistling and humming the melody again and again… Echo_TM knows how to produce such melodies… “Dub Culture” is a classic single with an intro and two remixes. The title-track itself is just great material to remix and both version “T” and “M” are a welcome offer to let the Ohrwurm crawl back into your ears. A great “Ohrwurm” for late summer afternoons where warm sunrays warm our skin.
