Takka Takka: We Feel Safer at Night

Takka Takka has a new album out called Migration on Ernest Jenning Record Co. Instead of firing up songs from that release, we are going to first introduce you to these New York based musicians by heading back to their 2007 release, where you will find one of my favorites. The track is We Feel Safer At Night from the album of the same name. For those who have to have the newest pop culture releases, you might be interested in buying the new Takka Takka track Fever on the Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist soundtrack along with Vampire Weekend, Band of Horses, Bishop Allen and many more. The movie has already made its money back as of its first weekend out here in the US, so all box office coming their way in the next few weeks is gravy for the studio and especially the musicians on the soundtrack. You can find We Feel Safer at Night at e-music, as well as iTunes. Lowry: One Thing
Insomnia Radio: Daily Dose MP3 Blog
Brooklyn, NY based group Lowry just released their debut album Love... More
Brooklyn, NY based group Lowry just released their debut album Love is Dead on Engine Room Recordings, and its a devastatingly romantic glimpse inside the world of this indie folk quintet. Today’s feature, One Thing, starts off with a very Nick Drakesque acoustic strum coupled with the harmony of Simon & Garfunkel-like vocals effortlessly layered by band members Heidi Sidelinker and Alex Lowry. The song shortly breaks wide open into a sweeping banjo laced tale of polarization and love, wrapped tightly in a warm blanket of potential and hope. The album is available in digital outlets like Spiral Frog, iTunes, and e-music. As far as a physical release, I believe I last heard November from the band’s social site bulletins. (Agnes Arpi) At the Gates, KB, Malmö (konsert) Att till slut få se At the Gates live var bra nog. Robina Love Come Down (Original Mix) (låt) Du-du-du-da-da-da-daa. Du-du-du-da-da-da-daa. Du-du-du-da-da-da-daa. Let your love come down. Let your love come down. So let your love come down. Du-du-du-da-da-da-daa. Du-du-du-da-da-da-daa. Du-du-du-da-da-da-daa. Fantastiskt bra. Sorgligt? You bet. (Jonas Appelqvist) Peter, Bjorn and John Seaside Rock (album) Stundtals vill jag bara lyssna instrumentala alster. Otroligt bra. (Madelene Holm) Less

Secret Dakota Ring: The Fade to Black

The long awaited sophomore album by LA based Secret Dakota Ring will thankfully be here in late October. It apparently has a title, Cantarell, with artwork designed by Jacob Berendes, who also designed the cover of the previous album, Do Not Leave Baggage All the Way. Secret Dakota Ring is a project of Andy Ross, who also plays guitar in the band OK Go, and arguably more important - was captain of his robotics team at school in Massachusetts. Thanks for that chunk of history you strident Wikipedia data miners. On his MySpace site Andy lists the release date as October 28th, on No Office/Serious Business Records, so make sure you give this several good listens to tide you over for about four weeks. [cs] New Album Tracklist (coming Oct. 28th) 1. They Got the Wrong Guy 2. The Fade to Black 3. Losing Eyeballs 4. I Blew Myself Up Over You 5. I Don’t Wanna Know About My City 6. I've spent the past couple of months trying to improve my production skillz with my limited resources. This is the first song to come out of it all (probably because it's the simplest) with more on the way hopefully! I think the original idea behind the song was about generally sitting on the fence, but it ended up going off on a tangent here and there. No matter, take it as is and I hope you all enjoy! Less

From Selkirk Scotland, we are happy to dish out another track by Frightened Rabbit off The Midnight Organ Fight - the first single from the April release, called Head Rolls Off. The Rabbit have a live album coming out late next month called Liver! Lung! FR! that you should start hearing tracks from shortly. If the two live shows I saw in March are any indication, it should be quite the production and definitely worth picking up. Beyond the live album, The Rabbit have a new single called I Feel Better that was released on FatCat Records in the UK in the last few days. Wonkavision: O Ímpar Perfeito
Insomnia Radio: Daily Dose MP3 Blog
The international special of the day is indie power-pop from Brazil... More
The international special of the day is indie power-pop from Brazil, heavy on the moog and sweet audio butter, primarily influenced by such bands such as The Rentals, Cardigans, and Weezer. Wonkavision sings half their songs in Brazilian Portuguese and the other half in English, fluctuating vocal duties between bandmates Will and Manu. Their first release, Wonkavision received a national award in Brazil for best indie rock album in 2004, and in 2007 they signed to the Tokyo based label PowerPop Academy, releasing an English version of that album in Japan. Currently they are not touring as Manu and Will have moved to London this year to get their masters degrees, but to make up for it The Wonkas have been releasing a single a month through their MySpace and at least one other online social site. Their main hope is to be able to put these singles together into a full length release by years end. The Portuguese album can be purchase via their official website, while the one in English can be purchased on iTunes. There are lots of free tracks at Last.FM and their English MySpace as well, although I’m not 100% sure if this song, O Ímpar Perfeito, has been translated over from its native tongue quite yet. The Wedding Present: Don’t Take Me Home Until I’m Drunk
Insomnia Radio: Daily Dose MP3 Blog
Three years have passed since seminal UK group The Wedding Present ... More
Three years have passed since seminal UK group The Wedding Present released their last full length masterpiece Take Fountain, after an eight year lull. They are back with the Steve Albini produced El Rey, written by lead singer David Gedge while living in Los Angeles. You can see area mentions on this release to Santa Ana Winds, Hollywood Blvd, Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica Blvd and La Brea. I was first turned onto The Wedding Present in ‘91 when their Albini produced album Seamonsters came out, and was happy to hear they were returning to his production wizardy for ‘El Rey’. tWP played at the Troubadour this last Friday night and I was able to attend with the person who first introduced me to their sound, seventeen years after the fact - a nice reunion of sorts. The track Dont Take Me Home Until I’m Drunk continues the band’s highlighting of cracked relationships and disappointment with bittersweet abandon. You can pick the track up here through IODA or the entire album over at iTunes. Brad Sucks - “Out Of It”
Phlow-Magazine - Free MP3 Music Culture
“A One Man Band With No Fans” | This is what Brad Sucks... More
“A One Man Band With No Fans” | This is what Brad Sucks (Brad Turcotte) says about his music. Well, he is a one man band but he is definitely not with no fans. Since 2001 he releases his music freely on the web and ever since he is using blogs and P2P-technology to spread his works. He can be considered as one of the first fully open source web-based recording artists and he just released his second album “Out of it”. His debut “I don’t know what I’m doing” (2003) was well received in the online community and made him become one of the first “web-musicians” who gained attention beyond the digital world. “[...] Despite giving my music away for free online, my songs have been licensed for television, played on commercial and campus radio, and I made enough money from licensing and sales to do a real pressing of my first CD [...] ” (Brad Turcotte) “I don’t know what I’m doing”, that was often compared to the sound of Beck, led to countless remixes that were featured on ccMixter, a Creative Commons remix-platform. Some of these remixes were put on the album “I Don’t Know What I’m Doing Remixed“. “I put the source files for my album I Don’t Know What I’m Doing online and people made a lot of remixes. I Don’t Know What I’m Doing Remixed is a compilation of some of my favorites.” (Brad Turcotte) For his new album “Out of it” he allready made source files available and it will surely not take long for new remixes to come up. “Out of it” continues the melodic sound of “I don’t know what I’m doing” but this time Brads indie/alternative rock comes along with stronger beats and even more obvious guitars. Besides his great music, Brad Sucks is one of only a few “web-musicians” who fully adapted the open source licencing model to music. He uses the BY-SA Creative Commons license, that also allows commercial use of his works (Usually netlabels and musicians go for a noncommercial license that restricts commercial use). “A lot’s changed since I started putting music on the Internet way back in 2001. Artist-endorsed free downloads were shocking. Flexible pricing was still an untested novelty. It was rare to find source files from artists and sharing music wasn’t encouraged by new artists. Recently I was asked if I’d do anything different this time around. Would I still give the music away for free? Would I still give away my source files? Would I still be easygoing about copyright? Surely I could pull back now and try to cash in. And I honestly couldn’t imagine why I’d do things different. The only reason I, a dude who made an album by himself in a country basement, has had any sort of success is because people took it upon themselves to share my music with their friends. They remixed it, they used it in their videos, they played it on their podcasts, they included it in software and games and it took on a life of its own. To sabotage that would be a huge, retarded mistake. Instead I’ll be grateful if Out of It worms around the world in even close to the same freaky way I Don’t Know What I’m Doing did and continues to.” (Brad Turcotte) If you want to know more about Brad, visit his website and listen to this Interview (Podcast), done by the Redhat Magazine. Enough said! Now go and listen to Brad Sucks, kids! MP3 Pop Music Download Download: Brad Sucks - “Out Of It” (ZIP-Archive) Artist-Website: www.bradsucks.net Release: Brad Sucks - “Out Of It” Less

Hypnotist, the second track off Built for the Sea’s debut self-titled album was released in November of 2006. It invitingly appeals for one to jump into the lush ethereal dream-pop world seemingly created effortlessly by this San Francisco based indie rock five piece. BFTS actually have a new EP (Mise en Scene) that is officially releasing on 18th up in San Francisco at Slim’s, but since this is an introduction to the network, lets dip into the earlier material first. You may recognize Long Beach rooted singer Lia Rose (as pictured from her March show in Austin at Bourbon Rocks) from the band Minipop, whom we played about a week ago. She amicably parted ways with the group a while back and carefully recruited a group of musicians including Rum Diary’s Daniel McKenzie on bass, the Aimless Never Miss’ Jon Latimer on guitar, and drummer Erik Kuhn of Silian Rail. You can pick up the self titled album and this track at itunes and cdbaby. [cs] Download | Subscribe | Subscribe in iTunes | Subscribe to All Spread It Around: Hide Sites Less

Rerecorded version of "'Til We're Dead" from my forthcoming EP. I think fans who heard the original demo posted here a few months ago will notice that apart from a key change we thought was necessary, the arrangement is mostly the same. Keep in mind while listening that this is an unmixed rough cut so the levels are certainly out of whack and the end-result will be more polished. Hope you enjoy it and thanks again for all of the kind words, covers, etc. you all have shared with me. If anybody wants to receive updates on the status of the EP, feel free to message me or just check out the Myspace link on my profile here. Also check out my last MeFiMu post here to hear more from the EP. Less
