The Combination Continues by Andrew McCaskey The combination of technologies that I wrote about yesterday just got expanded by the Bruce Schneir essay on the “Future and the Kill Switch”. In addition to the potential for erosion or negation of the rights that we enjoy on both the commercial and political front, the article examines the intersection in the physical world. The camel’s nose in the tent is the adoption of the DRM protections, embedded in hardware which we have already seen in Vista and the Broadcast Flag. The Kill Switch is the ability of the manufacturer or governement to remotely, and at will disable the capabilities of the device that you own, or apply your own tools against you. It’s a very slippery slope. ============== I am excited about the trip tomorrow to the PodCamp Ohio. It’s about a seven hour drive but is going to be well worth the trip.
