He describes 5 stages of "change readiness" - each of which is responsive to certain processes or approaches. It is quite dramatic how losing a challenge becomes so self-defeating, and in itself seems to trigger a cascade of downward performance. I have been wondering what comes first in this chicken or egg scenario - losing or the loser's mentality? If you really want to play the game, then recognize that it is a game and winning or losing don't matter. If you think of yourself as a competent gamer though, you build your psyche and that builds your body and your creativity and your connectivity. Nicholas Kristof wrote a piece in the NY Times that really helps to explain it. Rather, most of the votes that Mr. Obama actually loses belong to well-meaning whites who believe in racial equality and have no objection to electing a black person as president — yet who discriminate unconsciously. The cure? Out yourself when you have a racist thought, even if it's embarrassing. It helps I think to flush up those legacy thoughts that have been passed down from generation to generation, just like, "put a coat on or you'll catch a cold!" I like the somewhat formal, research-driven, unemotional yet yet not cold-hearted or partisan perspectives. The one on Hidden Flaws in Strategy I found insightful, as it included several practical examples of how we become vulnerable to the emotional filters that can be applied to decision making. How true that what we own, often appears to be more valuable to us, than it is to others. "Like new" does not equal "used." We've never made a TV commercial before, and had to do this in the span of about 2 weeks.
