The People’s Games: Pandemic 2
Sometimes one does not need to see the horrifying death and destruc... More
Sometimes one does not need to see the horrifying death and destruction firsthand to truly appreciate it, and yes that is the premise of Pandemic 2. In this free online game, you take on the role of either god, angry at the world as it has turned into swarms of heathenness bastards, or you’re the disease that god wishes to plague them with. Your goal is to wipe out all of humanity, forever ridding them of themselves. To start, you choose whether you want to play on Realistic or Relaxed. You get more “traits” (i.e. symptoms) for your disease in Realistic but it also takes a little longer to play. Then you select your disease class: Virus (the fastest moving but weakest), Bacteria (the well-rounded one), or Parasite (slow but sneaky). I’m a Bacteria man, myself. You then get to name your disease whatever you want. After that you get to listen to some cool music, watch a global map and see how your disease spreads. This is a game you play when your bored as it is a lot of waiting…you wait to get points, then you make your disease stronger, wait then make it more deadly, wait then make it spread easier. The real fun comes from watching the population of each country dwindle away into nothingness. Your primary enemy in the game is a meter showing how many days until the cure is discovered, then distributed. Your second enemy is Madagascar, which will close its boarders and prevent you from winning at the first sign of trouble. All nations start out green but soon turn orange and then a brownish-red as you infect more and more of the world’s population. Games like this can be either fun or really boring because they’re not extremely exciting ones. They’re just what you do while writing a paper or typing a report. The music works as a suitable background noise that rarely drives one insane in this game. Then the knowledge that you are committing a genocide that Hitler could only dream of is its own reward. You can play Pandemic 2 at kongregate.com. Its a nice game to play when your busy and want to take little breaks in your work. If the slow pace is frustrating you, there are three speed settings in the game, so you can make it go a little faster. Mother 3 (the sequel to Earthbound) has just been translated into English by the greatest people in the world at mother3.fobby.net. Now, this is not a review, its just a heads up. The site probably won’t have one up for the next couple of weeks or so, but I wanted to get the word out now. Greg or I will be doing the review, probably whichever one of us finishes the game first. To play the English version you’ll need to download it from the website above, download the japanese version of the ROM, and have a gba emulator. They explain it all on the site. Go get it now. The game’s great. Go download, play, live, laugh, love! Posted in Freeware Tagged: Download, earthbound, english, Mother 3, translation Less
