Make Use Of Podcast #37: Top Ten Flickr Greasemonkey Scripts

A recent article by Jim Henderson about getting your pictures noticed in Flickr got me thinking about making Flickr easier to use, getting more out of it.  So, I’ve come up with the definitive list of the ten top Flickr Greasemonkey scripts. 10. Flickr PM - Adds useful links next to a users buddy icon 9. Flickr2Facebook - Makes it easy to upload Flickr images to Facebook 8. Flickr Cross-Recommendations - What people who faved this image also faved 7. Flickr Auto Page - Loads all photostream or pool images on one page 6. Flickr Move Comment Form Up - Moves comment form to just below image.  Useful on heavily commented-on images 5. Flickr Add Referrer into Comment - Lets photographer know in which group you found their image 4. Flickr Exif Decorator - Adds translucent, unobtrusive box with some EXIF info 3. Flickr On Black - Links to view any image on a black background 2. Flickr Comment Tools - Adds a few word processor type buttons to comment box 1. Flickr Multi Group Sender - Makes sending an image to multiple groups easy If you’ve got some better ones, please let me know in the comments. (BTW: Greasemonkey is for more than just Flickr.  Search for your favourites over at UserScripts.org) .muo_af_style { background-color: #B4D0E1; border: 2px solid #4275B8; } (By) Jason Mayoff is a dad, a tech geek and a Canadian radio broadcaster (CJAD 800). You can also find Jason at his photoblog or over at Flickr. Enjoyed the article? Please leave a comment and tell us what you think about it New here? With new betas for both Firefox and Chrome being released, CNET decided to find out how good their JavaScript performance was. Both browsers got a performance boost with Firefox slightly edging out Chrome. You have to turn on TraceMonkey, Firefox’s new Javascript engine in 3.1b1, to get the improvement. We never thought Google was that serious about building a new browser. They just want wanted Firefox to get their act together and suck less. It seems to be working. [via Lifehacker]        Less

How Does Your Web Browser Handle JavaScript?

How Does Your Web Browser Handle JavaScript?

Add to iTunes | Add to YouTube | Add to Google | RSS Feed Google Ch... More

Add to iTunes | Add to YouTube | Add to Google | RSS Feed Google Chrome has been officially in beta for about a month now. Many of you are using it for your default browser already at this point. I wrote about Google Chrome this month for my CPU Magazine article. I want to discuss one of those points with all of you now. As you visit websites, you may seem to be slowed down due to the amount of script that is running on the page. It’s all potentially tied into JavaScript performance. This is going to get interesting in a couple of months. Google has said they will be using the V8 JavaScript engine. This, of course, is now a part of WebKit. Just last week, WebKit came out and said they have SquirrelFish Extreme, which is a register-based, direct-threaded, high-level bytecode engine, with a sliding register window calling convention. It lazily generates bytecodes from a syntax tree, using a simple one-pass compiler with built-in copy propagation. This increases JavaScript performance even more, even compared to V8. We’re about to enter a browser war, specifically in the area of JavaScript performance. Google releases a beta browser, with a good JavaScript engine. Let’s face it, a lot of your favorite sites are probably running JavaScript right now. And, Chrome is handling it much more efficiently. Here we have a Beta browser who is running a better JavaScript engine than what any of the current leading browsers have. This is raising the bar in a very big way for everyone else. I went searching the web to help me find something that can help me download the nightly build of the WebKit. I found NightShift for use on Mac OS X. NightShift automatically downloads and updates WebKit, the Safari HTML rendering engine, to the latest nightly version for Safari. No user intervention is required, everything is fully automated. The developer has a few other cool tools, as well. For Windows users, check out Chrome Plugins. This site is full of Plugins, Themes, Add-ons and information for the Google Chrome Web Browser! This isn’t an “official” Chrome blog, but the people who are working officially on Chrome are a part of this community, as well. You can learn pretty much everything you need to know about Chrome, and then some! What are your thoughts? Where do you think browsers are heading? Jason Profit Moffatts Niche Browser. Thumbnail Views: Via Thumblicio.us SEARCH ANY STORY YOU HEAR ON THE PODCAST Shorter Podcasts and National Mood by Andrew McCaskey Written by Andrew McCaskey Thursday, 09 October 2008 22:18 It’s not that there isn’t tech news: It is just swamped by the flood of political and business news washing over us all. And my ability to concentrate continues to diminish. And that is one reason for the shorter podcasts the past two weeks or so. One of the main editorial filters that I have practiced for years (other than a few remarks here and there) is that “Ford versus Chevy” arguments offer little in the way of value. That’s why I keep them out of the podcast. Ok, I have to admit that I got carried away with the rest of the crowd in the anti-Vista bias but in the balance, I figure that the election is being so well covered that there is not much value add in promotion of my personal views. The problem is that we are all caught up in this flood with personal and professional risks uppermost in our minds that it’s getting harder and harder to keep that filter in place. And I think that I am seeing the flow of information - other than economic news and political news - steadily decline as businesses and individuals grapple with the personal impact on careers and families. All I know is that I just realized this a day or two ago: If the situation stabilized tomorrow - it would take my family about 12 years to get back to where we were a month ago. And when AIG went back for another $35Billion that was just about the last straw. Where are you ?
