[foo] sent in this amazingly well done mod to add an SNES controller to a PSP. He was contacted with a request to mod a PSP for someone who had limited use of one hand.  The PSP controls were too difficult for her, but miraculously, she could play an SNES controller well.  The quality of the mod is very nice. [foo] has added a port on the back that the controller plugs into. Other than the port on the back, the PSP looks completely stock and functions fine. When plugged in, the cable and plug act as a stand for the PSP too.  Check out the video after the break for more.        Less

Google Developer Podcast Episode Nine: The status of accessibility on the Web

Google Developer Podcast Episode Nine: The status of accessibility on the Web

By Dion Almaer, Google Developer Programs Using iTunes? T.V. Raman ... More

By Dion Almaer, Google Developer Programs Using iTunes? T.V. Raman is a Research Scientist at Google who knows a thing or two about accessibility. We took the opportunity to interview him, and Hubbell, his seeing-eye dog (who was nice and quiet). We started out by asking the honest question that developers ask about accessibility: "What is in it for me?". T.V. discusses the practical issues, and what you should be doing with respect to accessibility, and how it is one piece of the usability picture. We then delve into the problems of developing accessible websites, and solutions to some of the problems. If you listen to the interview you will learn: How not to develop in a user-agent specific manner Fun issues with screen readers How audio CAPTCHA brings equality to the pain of CAPTCHA, and how people who can see use the audio ones How painful is the Web to view for a blind person Using the Google Web Transcoder (the other GWT!) to clean up pages How CSS hasn't been as leveraged as much as we would like How the increase in mobile and widget platforms has a side effect of accessible views How RIA applications deal with accessibility How T.V. has written custom clients for Google APIs What standards groups are doing in the accessibility space Dealing with Python, a language that cares about whitespace, as a blind man. You can download the episode directly, or subscribe to the show (click here for iTunes one-click subscribe). Also, check out an accessible web search for the visually impaired. Less

By now most of us should be pretty familiar with creating an accessible data table--use a caption, TH for row and col headers, scope attribute, and the summary. In this podcast, Dennis talks about the least familiar of these techniques--the summary attribute of the table element. The summary attribute is WCAG Checkpoint 5.5 (Priority 3). Download Web Axe Episode 54 (The Summary Attribute) Examples of good summary text: The number of employees and the foundation year of companies in Orlando, Florida, in 1988. A warming trend has been observed in Cache Valley, with temperatures about 5 degrees above historical averages over the last two months. This table charts the number of cups of coffee consumed by each senator, the type of coffee (decaf or regular), and whether taken with sugar. Total required by pollution control standards as of January 1, 1971. Commercial category includes stores, insurance companies and banks. Sample Code (from 456bereastreet's Bring on the Tables): <table summary="The number of employees and the foundation year of some imaginary companies."><caption>Table 1: Company data</caption><tr><th scope="col">Company</th><th scope="col">Employees</th><th scope="col">Founded</th></tr><tr><td scope="row">ACME Inc</td><td>1000</td><td>1947</td></tr><tr><td scope="row">XYZ Corp</td><td>2000</td><td>1973</td></tr></table> Links W3C Definition of Summary attribute: This attribute provides a summary of the table's purpose and structure for user agents rendering to non-visual media such as speech and Braille. For a lack of a better title, in this episode Drew McLellan and I had the chance to discuss the evolving technology of microformats along with quite a few of his other sites like Dreamweaver Fever and 24ways. Other than that, we discussed some of the latest news going on around the web such as Dan’s DOM Builder and William’s Firefox extension guide, and of course played another classic game of Pryamid 2.0 where I failed miserably (again). Indiana Jones, Mashups, naked day, oh yea, Jeremy Keith and I talked about it all. And did you know he has a food blog? Nevermind the matter, this is a podcast you won’t want to miss and pass up the chance to listen to a published author and Task Force super hero. In this Episode We go into the typical news stuff such as the Gawker Stalker mashup. In particular George Clooney says he’s going to do something about… but I wouldn’t take that too seriously. Also in the news we talked about a Del.icio.us function list which allows you to see pretty much anything and everything that’s ever been done with their A.P.I.. And last but not least, everyone should know by now that today is naked day so don’t be shy to jump right on in with the rest of the world. JavaScript Stuff Of course this wouldn’t be right if we didn’t talk about JavaScript. We did in fact talk a bit about leaky scripts, window popping, and of course, the ever popular Hijax method of developing Rich Internet Applications. A good demo of Hijax in practice would be Jeremy’s Elsewhere subsite. Download this Episode This podcast is 59 minutes. Download Episode 09: WSwI Podcast: The Temple of DOM with Jeremy Keith Less

First thing’s first; Nathan Smith is a funny guy, and today I had the pleasure of re-experiencing another podcast with him where we discussed CSS jargin like his CSS Hoverbox Image Gallery as well as some books like Andy’s CSS Mastery along with Cameron and Jame’s JavaScript Anthology. We then moved on our Web 2.0 Pyramid Gameshow which became quite a disaster and yet hilarious. Not In this episode Unfortunately Episode 08 was going to be hosted with the three lovely ladies Molly, Veerle, and Rachel, however we ran into some technical difficulties in the morning and were unable to get everything working correctly. So in the meantime, I still have all your questions (for those who submitted them), they’ll just have to be put on hold.
