Been really excited to share this! Subdrive homey Terror Dactel and our newly anointed house MC, Charlie Tippie, teamed up to rework Charlie’s original minimal hip-hop tune “Vocaloid” (originally produced by Ming of Ming & FS). A departure from Terror’s recent work, the tune actually flips back to his original hip-hop production and is a hint of what’s to come from these two artists. Expect to hear new Terror Dactel tunes soon, including an EP from Charlie on Subdrive in 2010. Charlie Tippie – Vocaloid (Terror Dactel Mix)

We posted a Selektor mix a while back from the Chrome Kids, a group of DJs and producers from the UK pushing everything bass. Well the guys sent us their latest mix for Adam Walton’s Mystery Tour on BBC Radio Wales. Originally broadcast on the 11th of October, the mix goes all around from the more laid-back tunes to heavier, harder production work. Recommend you pump your low-end for this.

Washington DC is on straight fire with the Nouveau Riche crew! Our boy Nacey sent over his latest remix of La Roux’s “Bulletproof”. Slower and more brooding than his past work, Nacey really brings out the melody with clean minimal production. If his past work hasn’t sparked your interest, this remix should be the one to make him top your radar immediately. La Roux – Bulletproof (Nacey Remix)

We had a blast this past weekend at the 2009 Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival. It was our second year doing it, and the first year where we had a full roster playing out! Crew members Terror Dactel, VDRK, OCD Automatic, Viking, and Charlie Tippie all performed sets. We’ve got a video above from a festival-goer of Viking dropping his signature massive set. Check out photos of the entire festival at Nicky Digital and The Culture of Me. Thanks to all who came and made the event possible, especially Famous Friends!

The Beetroots are back and are about to drop their debut full-length on DIM MAK on September 8th. It’s going to have a lot of older tunes including Butter, Warp 1.9, but also features guest appearances by Justin Pearson (The Locust, Head Wound City), Ed Banger artist Vicarious Bliss, and many more. This fresh new tune slows it down, showcasing the guys’ signature electro sound and twisting into a hip hop mutant with The Cool Kids.

Did liquid funk ever die? Not according to Philadelphia-native Ross D whose new tune, “The 215″, taken from his upcoming album Musical D-Lite, evokes the sounds of High Contrast, Makoto, and Hospital Records. Ross D really shines because the tunes sound natural and never forced. Thick drums, the perfect grooves, and fantastic sampling make tunes like “So Fine” and “The 215″ definitely stand out; the latter being a perfect summer tune that you can crank while driving down to the beach. Be sure to pick up the album now on Beatport and on physical on September 8th! Ross D – The 215

Larry Tee and Alexander Technique, or as they’re known together, Blogula, sent us their latest remix of Little Boots‘ “New In Town”. The guys have kept the original’s pop-flare but have added a darker layer. As a result, it’s something that’s much more welcome at late-night clubs, especially those going for somewhat minimal electro-pop.

I was in DC for the majority of last week and went out a few times in my area. Even though I’m a native of the area, I don’t know what’s going on all the time so I asked Blisspop headman Will Eastman to point me in the right direction. He recommended Level Up, a new party at Asylum in Adams Morgan (which if you’re in town, check out). Not knowing who was spinning, it was a great surprise to find and finally meet Nouveau Riche’s own Nacey behind the decks. With that said, you have to have to download his latest tune “Lose Your Love” off his new EP with crew-mate Starks. The track is a funky, disco-influenced, Bmore-beat driven dance number that will, without a doubt, have you bobbing your head and moving your feet the moment the first beat drops. Love for DC, love for Nacey, and the Nouevau Riche crew. You guys are killin it! Nacey – Lose Your Love

"Hooligans" is topping the UK DMC charts at #1, so Don decided to share two more remixes with us, both from bass-heavy masters. First off, famed Dutch dnb production crew Noisia decided to mix things up and gave "Hooligans" their own take on the tune, but with a twist on electro. I have to hand it to Noisia, they've broken out of the stigma of being within one genre, and they once again prove that they are one of the best production teams out there. This tune will be playing all over very soon. Secondly, we've got a dubstep cut from Wire, Example's tour DJ. It's hard, nasty, grimey will make your brain rollover in its skull. It works really well with the original tune, but is a lot nastier than Doorly's take (which is fantastic as well). Grab both below, and be sure to give both remixers, Example, and Don Diablo himself some myspace love!
Out today, Kitsuné Maison's 7th compilation is a fantastic collection of new music from the likes of Renaissance Man, Chew Lips, Phoenix, Men, Heartsrevolution, and many, many, more. To give you a sense of the record, we've got the The Golden Filter's "Favourite Things" to share with you. It's a grooving, shiny, tune with a literal list of things that the mysterious singer digs. Overall the compilation is a good balance of proper club tunes as well as songs that you can enjoy without a dark smokey environment. Showcasing new artists alongside veterans always seems to be Kitsuné's main goal, and they've compiled a great selection for their latest offering. Definitely pick up the release and check out the fantastic Yuksek remix of autoKratz’s “Always More”, as well as the Classixx hype-worthy cut of Pheonix’s “Lisztomania”. There are too many good tracks on here to list, so just take a listen for yourself. iTunes has had the compilation on digital for a bit now, but you can finally get it on Amazon and Beatport as well. Kitsuné Maison Compilation 7 gets a 4.5/5 The Golden Filter – Favourite Things</itunes:summary>

I love supporting folks from my hometown, especially when they're actually really talented. DC-based producer/dj Nacey hit us up with his remix of Major Lazer's "Hold the Line". If you don't know Nacey, he's part of the hot Nouveau Riche crew with Gavin Holland and Steve Starks. Nacey's remix of the Lazer tune is a slower and darker jam but keeps Santigold's great Mr. Lexx's vocals intact. Major Lazer - Hold the Line (Nacey Remix)

“Hooligans” is topping the UK DMC charts at #1, so Don decided to share two more remixes with us, both from bass-heavy masters. First off, famed Dutch dnb production crew Noisia decided to mix things up and gave “Hooligans” their own take on the tune, but with a twist on electro. I have to hand it to Noisia, they’ve broken out of the stigma of being within one genre, and they once again prove that they are one of the best production teams out there. This tune will be playing all over very soon. Secondly, we’ve got a dubstep cut from Wire, Example’s tour DJ. It’s hard, nasty, grimey will make your brain rollover in its skull. It works really well with the original tune, but is a lot nastier than Doorly’s take (which is fantastic as well). Grab both below, and be sure to give both remixers, Example, and Don Diablo himself some myspace love! Well, the two teamed up with superhouse the Mill and created this music video for their band. The result is a fantastic piece done in McBess's signature drawing-style, all in black and white, and with a fun little story. Looking forward to seeing more from the two and hearing more of their music. The Dead Pirates (McBess) - Wood

Really impressive performance from Dub FX, and mind you this is all live. Reminds me of some old-school dnb and some of the stuff Hospital released. Dub FX has interesting lyrics, deep spacial productions, but still holds the entire track down with solid rhythm and bass. Hit up his myspace to hear cuts from his upcoming new album.

PacoVolume is a musician from France that doesn't do straight up dance music, but rather focuses more on guitar-driven melody and lyrics. His new single "Cookie Machine" is an upbeat tune with a video that combines stop-motion animation and live-action to emphasize the song's lyrical points. It's simple, fun, fresh pop. Pick up his debut EP out June 2nd on Discograph. Video Directed by Romain Chassaing.

The Crystal Method are set to release their 4th album, Divided by Night, out today. The video above is for the first single from the album, "Drown in the Now", featuring the fantastic Matisyahu. It's a solid comeback single, and I'm happy to see they're not changing up their style just to conform with trends. The video itself works a lot with the new album's concept, at least in direct relation to the artwork. Buy Divided by Night now on iTunes.

Pacemaker - Portable DJ System

We heard about the Pacemaker a long time ago, and it's finally here. The debut model, the Tonium P666 Pacemaker, has a 60gb hard drive, 2 stereo channels, headphone port, line out port, and can pretty much do anything you can do with a traditional setup. At least that's what they claim. The design of the device is pretty slick, and they spent a long time fine-tuning the features, getting assistance from top-notch producers and DJs like Richie Hawtin, Sebastian Ingrosso, and others. The result is a one piece device that lets you do everything you can do with Ableton or the vinyl setup. I think it's interesting that a serious portable device is finally out, not something like an attachment to an iPod. However, as with most things in the DJ industry, adoption might be a bit slow. People are so set into using Serato, and Ableton, that the pros probably won't be running to this thing. Engadget did an unboxing a few days ago, and it's obvious the company is all about design and presence, ...

Engadget did an unboxing a few days ago, and it's obvious the company is all about design and presence, with cute little quotes and horoscopes related to music printed on the packaging. If you have $499 lying around, Amazon is selling the player exclusively here in the US. Check out the creative Pacemaker video on the little device above. The Pacemaker is a fantastic, fresh idea and it will be interesting to see how far it goes.</itunes:subtitle>

Paul van Dyk DJ App for iPhone

Man, there are more and more interesting iPhone apps coming out. I think this is honestly the first time that professional DJs are doing some legit celebrity endorsements with some quality products. And now, every trance fan's god, Paul van Dyk, has his own app on the iPhone as well. The app looks pretty useful from the demo PvD himself gives above. The thing has noise level meters (which may or may not work due to the crappy iPhone microphones), a BPM counter, a frequency analyzer that works through the mic (again dunno how that will work). However the coolest feature has to be the Seismic Reader which lets you place the iPhone/iPod touch on your turntable and see the vibrations coming in so that you can set up Serato or Final Scratch up properly. Oh and the thing has a virtual glowstick and a flashlight. Go figure. We don't know when it's coming out or it's price, but I would guess it would be under $12.

OH man, there is an all out market now on DJ apps from different labels and artists. Mad Decent released theirs back in January apparantly and it has the ability to trigger sound effects. It's pretty much just something to either annoy the hell out of people, or be really useful for sound drops during a DJ set. "Demo" by label-head Diplo himself on the video above.
After many years of running this site, I'm super excited to announce that we have officially formed an open-source digital record label launching TODAY. When we set out to create the label, we thought of what needed to be changed in the industry, how the artists could interact more with the fans, and vice-versa. The blogs have created a whole new way for the fans to critique and share music, dealing directly with artists. But the one thing that was missing was that though a lot of the music was free, it was all one-sided. Beyond the artist giving a free track to the blog, who in turn gave it to readers and fans worldwide, thats where the process ended. Today we're announcing that with every single Subdrive release, we plan to include 100% DRM-free stems from the single. These are also available in the highest-quality possible, and by buying them, you are directly supporting the artists. We don't take a cut of these sales at all. We want everyone, not just producers and professionals...

And if we hear something we like, we'll release it and give a cut of the profit to the remixer! We will also always have a free edit in 320kbps MP3 covered under the Creative Commons Share-alike license for anyone and every blog to download. So to inaugurate our first release, I'm extremely proud and excited to share with you all the debut single, "DTF", from our first signing, Terror Dactel. Pick up the DJ friendly 6 minute original mix on May 19th when the track drops on iTunes worldwide followed by releases on Beatport and Juno. Terror Dactel - DTF (edit)</itunes:subtitle>

For the past few months, Adam Freeland has been pushing the first single, "Under Control", from his new band, Freeland. With remixes from Alex Metric, Zombie Nation, and others, the debut single has already gotten lots of blog love and attention. Well today we've got the music video for the single and it truly adds a whole new dimension and energy to the track. Just imagine it live folks! Really psyched for this record, it's shaping up to be a big one. Catch it out this June on Freeland's own Marine Parade. OH and be sure to catch the band on tour here in the US starting May 1st at DC's own Rock and Roll Hotel, followed by stops in NYC, Toronto, Montreal, Chicago, LA, and San Francisco.

We got this in the mail from a New York outfit called Gentlemen Thieves. Besides having an absolutely awesome name, the gentlemen also have some fantastic production skills. Their remix of Boss In Drama's "Favorite Song" is a great retro 80's disco sound. In contrast to the original version the remix has a great mellow vibe and unique charming quality to it.
The day has come everyone, the debut of the new party conceived by Famous Friends' fantastic and fun DJ, VDRK! DISCOVERY launches tonight at Greenpoint's club Studio B and promises to be a hell of a night. In contrast to Friday's hard electro show with MSTRKRFT, tonight's installment of DISCOVERY, titled Vol 1.: The Anabatic Records Party, is a focus on the more tech-house side of things. Lots of folks have been talking up Worthy since WMC, so we're pretty excited to see what he has up his sleeves. He'll be joined by Derek Plaslaiko, a staple from the Detroit rave circuit, and a resident at Brooklyn's own Bunker and Wolf + Lamb parties. The night will be rounded out by the talents of Joee Irwin from Palms Out Sounds and Brandon Sek of Curb Crawlers as well as the talented creator of the ceremony (CC?) VDRK and DISCOVERY resident John Top. Oh and the cherries on top? There's a photobooth that will be taking Discovery branded digital photos right on site, PLUS there's 2-4-1 well drink...
