I’ve been focusing a lot over the last years about the importance of one’s own voice, the importance of doing introspective work, the importance of having a diary, written or visual, this to make things clear, or clearer, with one’s self. As i sat and watched the above video, i realized that i’ve been writing every morning, and afternoon when possible, over the last 8 years. It is so imbued in my life that i do not even notice it anymore - a habit some would call it, but i think ritual is the right word. I’ll go at war with anyone trying to steal my time to write, it is as important as the air that i breath. Writing time is, as Natalie Goldberg says in this wonderful short video, time where i stop and pay attention, time where i learn to honor my life and its beauty, time where i learn to trust my experiences, time where i learn to connect with myself and the world around me. I wonder, if you are not taking this time, fighting for it over all the todos ...

I wonder, if you are not taking this time, fighting for it over all the todos that wont make a difference, if you dont take time to listen to your voice, how can you get to know who you really are? How do you connect with yourself, the roots of the tree, how do you find your color and sound, how to find where you fit in, if it’s not by freezing moments and emotions in time by putting words on paper? How can you liberate yourself of all the garbage that is stagnating inside? I believe our experiences must go somewhere, that’s where great books, paintings, movies are coming from - all great work of arts comes from someone who dared to stop, observe, contemplate, question, and spill it all out.</itunes:subtitle>

Story by Moon-Hee for Vu d’ici It’s now been a bit over a month since I’ve changed jobs and I’m already missing all the new music that was being sent to me and other colleagues. The last album I received (just a few weeks ago) was of Brooklyn artist Reid Paley. Anyways… an awesome surprise, he has collaborated with Frank Black, so what more can I say? I am a music lover and cannot get enough of it:) Another surprise was when I was reviewing a tiny clip I filmed last year at Southpaw in Brooklyn. I remembered I was filming a wall of posters, because they have a poster of The Dagons who I had worked for the past three years, then I noticed that Reid’s poster was stuck right beside… small world, I knew there was something familiar about that guy… where’s the bar? from viewfromthemoon on Vimeo.

Since August 2006, Greenpeace is releasing a “Guide to Greener Electronics” where they are looking at various hardware manufacturers and their policies on toxic chemicals and recycling. Our ‘Guide to Greener Electronics’ aims to clean up the electronics sector and get manufacturers to take responsibility for the full life cycle of their products, including the electronic waste that their products generate. The guide does not rank companies on labour standards, energy use or any other issues, but recognises that these are important in the production and use of electronics products. If you look at the chart of companies shown above, you will notice that Apple - for example - is not that “green” when it comes to recycling components and usage of toxic chemicals with their products (only ranking 6 out of 10). <itunes:subtitle>Since August 2006, Greenpeace is releasing a “Guide to Greener Electronics” where they are looking at various hardware manufacturers and their policies on toxic chemicals and recycling. Of course, the latest report (which is from December 2007) does not include the new MacBook Air. And the detailed report says that Apple is trying hard to produce more eco-friendly hardware. Just have a look at the detailed report (pdf file). On the other hand I did not expect that Sony Ericsson, Sony, Dell, Lenovo (former IBM) and Samsung are the current leaders in that chart. I think that could be their strategy to catch up with Apple’s position as an innovation leader. Although I would love to see Apple to combine both, environmental friendly hardware as well as cutting-edge innovation and design! I am looking forward to the next report released by Greenpeace, including the new Apple products. Take a detail look at the current report (from December 2007 and links to all detailed reports as pdf files) here. Previous versions of the guide are available online as well: August 2006, December 2006, April 2007, June 2007 and September 2007.</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>Since August 2006, Greenpeace is releasing a “Guide to Greener Electronics” where they are looking at various hardware manufacturers and their policies on toxic chemicals and recycling.
The Xfiles of Stephenville

For those interested, here are some news about the Stephenville-Texas UFO story we brought some weeks ago. The local newspaper reporter who helped cover the UFO sighting case left for unclear reasons (although it looks like she was forced to keep information shut), and this witnesses of the UFO is being harassed by unfriendly army officers commanding him to shut his mouth off. People are now protesting the firing of Angelia Joiner for her coverage of Stephenville UFO sighting. Meahwhile, details released by the Ministry of Defense of the UK reported last week that UFO sightings are on the rise. The Telegraph also has a coverage of these details. The video above is just one of many. The question is, for me and many others, not about IF star beings are visiting us, but about WHY is the US government working so hard to hide facts and informations about UFOs. This in itself could be more scary than the UFOs themselves.

Improv Everywhere has about 70 mobilization missions (mob). Some are really amazing, such as the one where thousands of people took off their pants on subways in 10 cities around the world at the same time (!), and a mob where hundreds of people played simultaneously the same song on their mp3 players. Watch their latest one, Frozen Grand Central in New York - absolutely stunning!

Slow design sur Treehugger: (…) Slow Design, much like its gastronomic predecessor, is all about pulling back on the reins and taking time to do things well, do them responsibly, and do them in a way that allows the designer, the artisan and the end user to derive pleasure from it . Just like Slow Food, it’s all about using local ingredients, harvested and put together in a socially and environmentally responsible way. Above all, it emphasizes thoughtful, methodical, slow creation and consumption of products as a way to combat the sometimes overwhelming pace of life in the bigger-faster-now 21st century.
3 intense and authentic short stories about and by Steve Jobs, almost nothing about Apple: “You can’t connect the dots looking forward, you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something, your god, destiny, life, karma, or whatever. Because believing that the dots will connect down the road, will give you the confidence to follow your heart, even when it leads you off the well-worn path, and that will make all the difference.” Found on Marie-Claude’s blog.

I was immensely inspired today by Etsy founder’s announce about new funding coming their way. Through his personal approach, his announce summarize how Etsy started, the details about the new investment, and where is the company heading to. I’m sharing here parts of this announce, which i found myself inspired by for two reasons: first because it shows the power of a simple idea put in place by friends together, and second, for the way corporate information is shared here - with heart, authenticity and passion - something the old’corporate world will probably never learn how to do. In early April of 2005, I sat in an orange chair facing an open window. It was nighttime and the lights were off. I was back in Brooklyn after a brief residence in Paris, and I was about to sketch the initial ideas that would become Etsy. Working with three friends - Chris, Haim and Jared - Etsy went from these ideas to a site live on the Web in about two months. Then the story of Swimmy is used to explain the big idea behind Etsy… So our vision is to be the eye — to be a kind of organizing principle. We do not want Etsy itself to be a big tuna fish. Those tuna are the big companies that all us small businesses are teaming up against. Those big companies are holdovers from the days before the Web existed. And any company that is being run the same way now as it was before the Web came about is due for some massive restructuring or deflation. Etsy is a company born on the Web, literally. I see the company itself as a handmade project, and we’ll continue to build it this way. There’s much more to do, and we’re up for the challenge. But we need more than people to get there. And at last but not the least, in the many points explaining why Etsy needed these all brand new 27 Million dollars: We believe that the current economy, favoring megacorporations and supersizes, is unstable. People who make a living making things, especially those we have on Etsy, will play a key role in revitalizing and stabilizing the world.</itunes:subtitle>
