Patriots head coach Bill Belichick addresses the media during his press conference at Gillette Stadium on Friday, November 13, 2009. BB: It's funny after last week this seems like a short week. It's really not, of course; it's a normal week, but after the Bye Week and the extra time we had for the Miami game this one seems a little bit short. It's going by quickly. The Colts are a tough team to prepare for. I think the players have really worked hard. They've put in a lot of time, a lot of extra time. I think they've worked hard to get ready for this one. We know we're going to have to go out and play our best game in Indianapolis. I'm sure it'll be a very energetic environment - a lot of noise, a lot of energy, a lot of motion out there - so I just hope we can play well. We're going up against the best team in the league, one of the best teams in the league. We know it's a big challenge for us on the road, but I think our players are ready to compete. Q: Do you practice in the field house today to get them used to indoors? BB: No. We had a couple days out there in the wind and we're just tying things up a little bit. We had two good work days outside and today's a polished up review for the most part. We did some red area, goal line, a couple situational things, but a lot of it was a review. It was a good working environment in there. Q: Is this game against the Colts going to require a unique perspective on time management and game management? In this game, do you have to make a lot of decisions off the board? BB: I think you have to be ready for that every week. You never know how the game is going to go over, what situations are going to come up, so I think you have to be prepared for those every week. The Colts, they're a great team and they offer some unique challenges as every team does. Playing them is different than playing anybody else. Some things maybe get handled a little bit differently.
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick addresses the media during his press conference at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday, November 11, 2009. BB: I feel like we're back in the division again [with our] annual game with the Colts. It's kind of interesting looking at Indianapolis this year. In a lot of ways they look very much the same, a lot of familiar faces - Reggie Wayne, [Peyton] Manning, [Dallas] Clark, [Dwight] Freeney, [Robert] Mathis. And then in many ways they look different. They have some new receivers. They've had some changes on the offensive line, changes in the secondary, changes on the defensive line, punter, kickoff guy. They've integrated some new people into their system and at the same time changed their defensive scheme and special teams scheme just a little bit, although again, there's a lot of similarities to what we've seen in the past. Of course, it will be a little different looking across the sideline not seeing Tony [Dungy]. [They're] 8-0, leading the league in ...

Of course, it will be a little different looking across the sideline not seeing Tony [Dungy]. [They're] 8-0, leading the league in defense in points allowed. We know what kind of offensive team they have, of course leading the league in third down [conversions] and leading the league in numbers in passing, of course. They're a team offensively that can pretty much do whatever they want to do or need to do. I don't think they are limited in anyway. They never have been and they certainly don't look like it now. Defensively, they continue to make plays, turn the ball over, make teams earn it, [make the offense] drive long field and a lot of times they get them stopped. They do a decent job in the red area. The big thing is they turn the ball over. We know it'll be a big challenge for us this week. The environment out there, being focused, being able to stay on course and going up against an undefeated football team. They've earned it. They've done it a lot of different ways in their eight wins this year and that speaks to the all-around solid team that they have in all three phases of the game. It will be a big challe...</itunes:subtitle>

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick addresses the media during his conference call on Tuesday, November 10, 2009. BB: Watching the Colts, as usual, they look pretty good. They're 8-0. They've won games in different ways - scoring points, playing defense, turning the ball over, making big plays at the end - like they usually do - or getting out in front and coasting along. Offensively, they look as potent as ever, even though there are some new faces in there in the receiving group. Defensively, some new faces in the secondary [Robert] Mathis, [Dwight] Freeney, [Raheem] Brock, they're still very tough up front, linebackers run well and they turn the ball over, they rush the passer well. They're a very disciplined team on defense, in terms of gap control and things like that. [They are a] real good football team, well-coached, execute extremely well, and they create a lot of problems and a lot of tough matchups. We know we've got our work cut out for us on this one Sunday night, but at the same time we're looking forward to getting going. It seems like we play these guys every year. It's always an important kind of game and this one's no exception. Q: How has Indianapolis's offense expanded since the first year you played Peyton Manning? BB: I think they've definitely expanded it over a period of years. But they do a good job of having the things they need. There might be something that they haven't run in a year or half a season - or whatever - for the situations that didn't come up, and then they pull it out when they need it and they get it against the situation, or the look, or the coverage that somebody springs on them. They know how to pretty much beat everything and they have their ways of doing it, so whatever defenses you run, that'll trigger concepts that they'll use against them. You might not have the exact formation, or they change their personnel groups around, but they attack - whether it's split safety coverage, or post safety coverage, o...</itunes:subtitle>

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick addresses the media during his press conference at Gillette Stadium on Monday, November 09, 2009. BB: This was three games we played in the division. They've kind of all been the same. They've been tough, hard-fought games that have pretty much come right down to the wire, the last possession or two. [We're] fortunate to come out on top yesterday. Miami is a good football team; they certainly presented a lot of problems for us. I thought our guys stepped up to the challenge. They played good in the second half after they went ahead, came back [and] answered their drive with a scoring drive and then played good on defense, moved the ball a little bit, got some field position and were able to hang on there at the end. It's good to win. It's good to win in the division and now we turn ahead to Indianapolis. I thought we did a good job there with the line, the backs, the tight ends, all the people that were involved. We threw the ball to a lot of different guys. We ran the ball fairly effectively. We defended the run pretty well, except for a couple option plays there. But our red area offense, our red area defense was - give Miami credit - but that probably made game, the score, a little bit close, but then with some of the other statistics or opportunities would lead you to think it was going to be. It's an area we've got to keep working on, so we'll get back at it. Q: The Moss touchdown and the subsequent two-point conversion, how did that unfold? BB: On the touchdown play, he was running a crossing pattern with Wes [Welker]. The safety, I think it was [Tyrone] Culver, jumped Wes - kind of took Wes crossing there towards our sideline - Randy [Moss] came underneath it. That's why there's no safety there, he took the deeper cross to Welker and then Randy broke [Vontae] Davis' tackle and went in...</itunes:subtitle>

BB: We're back in the division here after a couple games out of it. Miami is a team that we're pretty familiar with, with our background on them, but still they've got some new faces there. [We're] looking at a quarterback that we haven't faced before [Chad Henne] and a few guys on defense. [They played] an explosive game against the Jets, two kickoff returns, a fumble return for a touchdown - when you make plays like that, it certainly increases your chances of winning. We saw a real physical team in the Indianapolis game, the way they ran the ball. They've been a good run defense all year, they cover kicks well. They're a strong, tough, physical team [with] a lot of big playmakers in all areas. Defensively, they have a lot of big pass rushers. They've got [Matt] Roth back and they acquired [Cameron] Wake. Of course, [Jason] Taylor's back and [they...

Of course, [Jason] Taylor's back and [they have Joey] Porter, so they have a pretty good group there - [Charlie] Anderson and all those guys. [They have] a couple young corners that are impressive. [They] certainly can run the ball on offense with that physical offensive line. [They have] good blocking tight ends [and running] backs. The [running] backs run hard and a good scheme. They are well-coached. They're sound. They're tough, so we know we're going to have to play a good football game on Sunday. There is no doubt about it [and], hopefully, we'll be ready to do that. That's what we're working toward. Q: You mentioned Ted Ginn Jr. on the kickoff returns, how much of a weapon is Stephen Gostkowski's strong leg been with touchbacks? BB: You know, that's really the best coverage you can have, kicking it out of the end zone. But the flip side of that is when you kick it deep, then that gives them the best opportunity to set up the timing on the return as opposed to the ball coming down on the 10, the 15, the eight [or the] go...</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>Patriots head coach Bill Belichick addresses the media during his press conference at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday, November 04, 2009.

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick addresses the media during his conference call on Monday, November 02,2009. BB: We gave the players the weekend off and we're back at it now on Miami. It was an impressive win they had yesterday against the Jets. That's a sweep on them, so that's pretty good for Miami. We had a couple tough games with them last year, certainly well aware of all the skill players they have and the toughness they have in the running game on both sides of the ball and a good job that they do down there coaching. We'll try to pull things together here after the Jets game and add that to all the other information we had from earlier in the week and get to work on these guys, get back on the field tomorrow and try to get an extra day - a little extra jump on them - which I am sure we'll be able to use. Q: Last year, I remember you talking about the Wildcat and talking about the percentage of time they used it and making the decision of how much time you want to devote in practice. How much are they using it this year and how will that be part of your preparation this week? BB: That's always a tough decision. This week it's the Wildcat [and] its other aspects of team offensive or defensive packages, you kind of deal with that every week and it varies from game to game. It's not always used in the same percentages. The better it's going, the more you're going to see it. For example, Indianapolis ... There are other times where they make you spend time defending it and [then they] don't use it all that much. I think the most important thing is that we're sound on it and we're prepared for it. Dan Roche re-caps a successful trip to London. Coach Belichick discusses the first half of the season with Scott Zolak and much more. PATRIOTS HEAD COACH BILL BELICHICK Q: Can you talk about the London trip? Would you deem it a success in all - with the win there? BB: Well, sure. That's the biggest part of it. That's why we went over there - to be 5-2. It's good to come back and get that one under our belt and move forward. We've got three division games in the next five coming up. We've got a couple undefeated teams sandwiched in there, so we've got a big challenge ahead of us, but right now we start to turn our sights toward Miami. Q: I heard you say you got to spend some time going to see some of the war bunkers while you were in London. I know you're a big historian, so can you talk about what you saw? BB: It was pretty interesting. Underneath parliament they built a little bunker during the bombing of London and all of that in 1940, and that's where Churchill kind of ran the war from with his staff. It's pretty interesting and pretty sparse quarters. And when the war was over, they just got up and left, so everything is just the way it was on the last day - on the VE Day. Q: You preach to your team about starting fast and setting the tone early in games. You guys have been able to do that, especially against Tennessee and Tampa Bay. Is that a good feeling with your team? BB: Yeah, absolutely. It's great to be able to play from ahead and we've been able to balance off our offensive game - the running game, play action and those things. And defensively we were in a lot of sub defense; we rushed the passer, ran some blitzes, got some pressure on the quarterback and kind of took them out of their running game. And they have very good backs, but when you're down by 28-7, 35-7, it's hard to run the ball in those situatio...</itunes:subtitle>

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick addresses the media during his postgame press conference at Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday, October 25, 2009. Opening statement It's a great way to end this week for our football team. I thought these guys really put in a good week of preparation. We started on Tuesday and got a lot of work done in Foxboro on Wednesday and Thursday and came out here and made the adjustment. And, you know, we went out there, played hard. Made some plays. So did Tampa. Some weren't so good, but we made some good ones. And I'm really proud of the guys for that. They stepped up. We had a pretty good effort on defense in the first quarter. Got a couple turnovers and offensively we were able to get some points on the board, and they scored 35 points. Should be able to win in this league. So really happy with what they did today. <itunes:subtitle>New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick addresses the media during his postgame press conference at Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday, October 25, 2009. We got a little bit of time now to go back and regroup and work on certainly a lot of things we need to work on here going forward. We've got a tough game coming up against Miami and we know the whole second half of the season really has a lot of challenges from week to week, but we'll tackle Miami first. So good to get on the plane and get back. It's been an enjoyable couple days here and glad we could end it on a positive note for our football team. On playing in London It's like a regular game. Once you get out there, you're concentrating on coaching the game, playing the game and Tampa in this case. And so I think whoever we're playing, that's the way we feel about it. But the week, the environment was good, and the people of London and all the people connected with our stay here, the hotel and the buses and the stadium and everybody was very hospitable. It was a good experience for all of us, and I'm happy we won. On Wes Welkers play Had a lot of big plays. Had a couple third down conversions. Of course had a score on a slip screen early in the game. So he comes through like he always does. I though...</itunes:subtitle>

New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker addresses the media during his postgame press conference at Wembley Stadium in London on October 25, 2009. On the atmosphere at Wembley Stadium I thought it was really nice. It really reminded me of the Super Bowl in Arizona, how the field felt to me. So having that experience, I had on the right shoes. We did have to go with the screw ins, but really there weren't too many slips out there where I was falling down or anything like that. I think there was one time where I was trying to cut. But other than that, it was a fast track and I liked it. On WR Brandon Tate I mean, he did a good job out there. It's tough for a rookie, especially he's been out there for a week. So really just coming in and understanding the system. We got a very complicated system. So for a guy to jump in there, it's tough on them. On his touchdown Yeah, it was really well blocked. We got offensive linemen that can really get out there and block. Whenever I got the screen I saw Barber kind of slip, so I knew we had a chance to get in the end zone on that. So the guys did a great job of getting a hat on a hat, and I was able to get in the end zone on that. On getting yards after the catch Absolutely. Especially when you're catching five yard routes you've got to be able to do something with it afterwards. So that's something I definitely gotta be able to do or I'll be out of a job here pretty quick. So it's definitely something I take pride in and try to accomplish. On the offense improving Well, we're getting some big plays out there. I know in the first quarter of the season, we really weren't getting any big plays. And I think that's really changing.
Patriots safety Brandon Meriweather addresses the media during his postgame press conference at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, October 25, 2009. On his interceptions You always want to kind of put a stress on turning the ball over. At the end of the day, if you get a lot of turnovers, nine times out of ten you win. On how he got his interceptions That's where the film studies come in at. They actually ran that play against Carolina last week. And the coaches just happened to put us in a great position. So when coach put us in a great position, I think the quarterback and the receiver were on two different pages and he just happened to throw the ball and I just happened to get a good break on it On if the Patriots defense is getting better I think we're young. I think we have a lot of things to get better at, and I think we do a lot of things well. So we still got some stones to build and some stones to overcome, but we're going to be all right.
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady addresses the media during his postgame press conference at Wembley Stadium in London on October 25, 2009. On WR Wes Welker He's all right. He's all right. I'll tell you, he needs to leave if I'm going to anyway, he's a great player. He does everything right out there. He's always in the right spot. He gets open versus any coverage on any route. He and Randy and the way Aik played today, they all stepped up and made some great plays. So we needed it. On the Wembley fans Well, hopefully they enjoyed it. There were some good plays out there by us. It wasn't as close a game as they've had in some of the past years, but happy we came out with the win. We came over here hoping to get a victory, and we did that. So it's nice going into a bye with a couple of victories under our belt, and it will be a fun flight home tomorrow. On coming to London again I'm all for it. I'm all for it. If we can guarantee in that bye in week eight, I'd love that, too. So it was...

If we can guarantee in that bye in week eight, I'd love that, too. So it was a fun experience for all of us, to think we all took something different out of it. You don't get this opportunity too often, and I think all the guys really enjoyed it. All the flashbulbs were going out there before kickoff and everybody seemed excited. The went on for about 10 minutes, which you don't see that in the States too often. They seemed excited for the fans here. I think it's a privilege for the players to come over here and get to enjoy this type of experience. So, like I said, it probably will never happen again for us, so we'll retire 1 0 internationally. On WR Brandon Tate He did good. It's pretty tough to do without practicing at all for all through training camp, the first six weeks of the year, and come out there, return kicks like he did. He had a nice play on a reverse. Every week he's going to get better. We need depth at that position and he's going to be called upon as a contributor even though he's a rookie. So he's got to keep making improvements. O...</itunes:subtitle>

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick addresses the media at the Brit Oval Cricket Grounds in Kennington, London. BB: This is quite an experience for us, all of us, the team, the players, and myself. I've been in the National Football League 35 years and this is the first time I've been to a facility like this. So it's kind of cool and I'm looking forward to the experience this weekend at Wembley [Stadium] and the couple of days we have here in London. It would be nice if we could hang around a little bit longer and see the Tower of London and all that [laughter]. It's a great, great city with great history and I love that it's getting into football and the NFL. Q: [On whose decision it was for the team to arrive on Friday] BB: It was our decision. What we tried to do was get all of our work done in New England, all of our preparation. So we're just going to get out here and review some things today, just get loosened up and get acclimated to the time change and so forth. So today's really a review day for us. We tried to get our preparation done at that end and then do the adjustment part of it at this end. Q: Over the last few years you've lost a lot of assistant coaches, and yet with the average amount of assistant coaches in the league around 17, you only have 12. Can you to talk about the less is more philosophy? BB: Well I think every team goes through transitions as far as losing players, losing coaches or front office people. That's just kind of the nature of the National Football League. You look at all the changes of the head coaches last year and that's fairly common, so we deal with that turnover on an annual basis. I was here about four years ago as a tourist and had a great time, so it's nice to be back. Q: When you came four years ago, were you recognized? TB: The Americans, they recognized me. But the English people, they're not too familiar with [American] football. So hopefully over the last few years ,with the NFL being here, have created some interest and some excitement. I know all the players are really looking forward to the game. It's a pretty unique experience for all of us and it'd be great to go out there and make it a memorable trip by playing our best game on Sunday. Q: Are you going to do some sightseeing?
