      <description>Festival Director and Chief Executive of the 2006 to 2009 Sydney Festivals, Fergus Linehan was born and grew up in Dublin in a family with extensive links to the Irish arts community. He began working in the industry at 14, and founded a theatre company during his University days. While working at the Dublin Theatre Festival throughout the 1990s, Linehan founded the Dublin Fringe Festival which went on to forge its own unique and very successful identity. He became Director of the Dublin Theatre Festival in 2000 and oversaw a major expansion of the scale and diversity of the program. As well as his work at the Dublin Theatre Festival, he was a board member of Theatre Forum, sat on the advisory council of The Abbey Theatre and was acting Chair of Theatreshop, an organisation dedicated to the promotion of Irish performing arts abroad.
