Tracklisting: 1. Peter Bjorn And John (Featuring Victoria Bergsman) - "Young Folks" (Get the download courtesy of The Daily Growl) This track has made it's way around the Mp3 blogs, but this is one insanely catchy pop tune that demands to heard again and again. 2. David Dondero - "Rothko Chapel" David Dondero is undoubtedly one of my favorite singer-songwriters. I've been listening to a live version of this unreleased demo for a few months now, so I already know and love this song and I can't wait to hear the album that accompanies it! This track is now streaming at David Dondero's MySpace. 3. The Avett Brothers - "Matrimony" This is an upbeat folk tune from the album Four Thieves Gone: The Robbinsville Sessions. 4. Nobody & Mystic Chords of Memory - "Decisions, Decisions" (Get the download from Gorilla Vs Bear) This is a collaboration between Elvin Estela (aka Nobody) and Santa Cruz couple Chris Gunst (Beachwood Sparks) and Jen Cohen (The Aisler's Set). This is off the album Tree Colored See, this track has nice trip-hop vibe. 5. Ceci Bastida - "Ya Me Voy" Long ago Ceci Bastida took over for Julieta Venegas in fronting the now-defunct seminal Spanish rock band Tijuana No! These days she plays in Venegas' band and has began working on a solo project. This (and a couple other) unreleased demos are now streaming on her MySpace. 6. Lloyd Cole - "What's Wrong With This Picture" Lloyd Cole fronted The Commotions in the '80s. He then moved from the UK to NYC, went solo, and then in 2001 unveiled a new band (featuring singer/songwriter Jill Sobule) and a new record, both sharing the name of The Negatives. This is a pop gem from that album. 7. Herman Dune - "I Wish That I Could See You Soon" (Get the download from Said The Gramaphone) Herman Dune is an anti-folk band from Sweden. This track is from their forthcoming album Giant. You can stream it on their MySpace if you like. 8. Grand Ole Party - "Look Out Young Son" (Get the download from Grand Ole Party's MySpace) Garage rock from a San Diego trio. If you see them live, they'll likely offer up CDRs for free! 9. Ellen Allien & Apparat - "Adore" (Download courtesy of Headphone Sex) This is from the album Orchestra Of Bubbles, a collaboration between two talented experimental techno producers.</itunes:subtitle>

Hear more from The Pinker Tone's site. 3. Audio Bullys - "Bright Light" There are too many breaks in this track so I chopped it in half. It's grime with a sample of a classic disco tune. 4. ESG - "Tiny Sticks" I couldn't really make a dance mix and not throw in a funky fresh ESG tune. 5. Bonde Do Role - "Solta O Frango" (Get the download from Bonde Do Role's MySpace) This is funky alternative dance rock from Brazil. 6. Tigarah - "Girl Fight" (Get the Mp3 courtesy of Tigarah's MySpace) Hip-hop, J-pop, with some M.I.A.-esque touches? I don't know what you'd classify this as. Hear for yourself from Tigarah's MySpace. 7. Jay Sean - "Got My Eyes On You" This guy is like the British Justin Timberlake...I mean that in a good way. 8.
Tracklisting: 1. El Perro Del Mar - âHere Comes That Feelingâ? This has got such an infectious rhythm that I just had to start this month's mix with this tune from this Sweedish songstress. This sounds like a tune that one of the girl groups of the '60s would've done. This is off El Perro Del Mar's self-titled album...fans of Jens Lekman might dig this one. You can get some downloads from El Perro Del Mar's MySpace. 2. Clearlake - âIt's Getting Light Outsideâ? (Mp3 courtesy of Bands' site) This is a catchy Brit-pop number with a heavy drum beat. This track is from Clearlake's forthcoming Amber Demo. Hear more from Clearlake's site. 3. Casey Dienel - "Doctor Monroe" (Mp3 courtesy of Collective Music) For one reason or another, I've been listening to alot of piano based female pop lately. This track is from the album Wind-Up Canary. Fans of Rufus Wainwright, Ben Folds, or Fiona Apple might enjoy Casey Dienel's somber indie-pop and cabaret style. Hear more from Casey Dienel's MySpace. ...

Trashcan Sinatras - "Leave Me Alone" Originally, I was going to play an early Trashcan Sinatras song, but something kept drawing me back to the 2004 album Weightlifting. This one is easily one of my favorite Trashcan Sinatras songs. I'm not sure why this band never really blew up stateside, but fans of Travis or Coldplay should go out and buy all the Trashcan Sinatras albums. 5. Federico Aubele - "Ante Tus Ojos" Federico Aubele got the attention of ESL Music label heads Rob Garza and Eric Hilton (of Thievery Corporation) and the duo were so impressed, they signed him to their label and produced his debut album. The result was Grand Hotel Buenos Aires, a sound collage of latin guitar and dub-influenced tracks with Spanish vocals. Hear more from Federico Aubele's MySpace. 6. Brady Harris - "Good To Know" (Get the Mp3 courtesy of Garageband) Brady Harris makes country-folk balladry and stripped-down singer/songwriter fare. You can hear more from Brady Harris' MySpace. 7. A-House - "The Strong and Silent" Legendary Irish indie greats, A-House, released 5 studio albums between 1988 and 1997. They had a number of UK chart singles, tours with The Go-Betweens, The House of Love, and were actually supported along the way by Radiohead, Blur, The Charlatans and Sleeper. They didn't generate much buzz outside the UK, this song is off 1994's 360 North Rockingham EP (produced by Edwyn Collins). 8. Tokyo Police Club - "Nature of the Experiment" (Mp3 courtesy of the Rock Insider) Tokyo Police Club are a Canadian indie garage pop quartet...this tune is off the album A Lesson in Crime. Hear more from Tokyo Police Club's MySpace 9. Tom Verlaine - "Meteor Beach" Tom Verlaine shaped the sound of modern music from his early days with the Neon Boys and Television, throughout his solo career, and most recently as the guitarist in Patti Smith's band. The Strokes and Dos are just a couple of acts that have stated Verlaine as a major influence. This is mellow instrumental tune from one of Tom Verlaine's two newly released albums. You can stream both albums in their entirety from Thrill Jockey Records.</itunes:subtitle>

Method Actors - "Do The Method" (Mp3 courtesy of Little Hits) Little Hits is a site that hosts rarities in hopes to spark an interest, eventually leading to legitimate re-issue of the works of an artist represented, or wider recognition of already available releases. This song is coverted from vinyl. The Method Actors were a duo out of Athens, GA who were into the funkier, no-wave side of post-punk. 5. Fujiya & Miyagi - "Sucking Punch" Fujiya & Miyagi were a duo formed in Brighton UK, releasing their first album Electro Karaoke in 2002. They became a quartet for awhile and have now been whittled down to a three piece. They claim they are trying their best, and that they may or may not get a drummer. This song is one of their funkier numbers off their album Transparent Things. Hear more from Fujiya & Miyaki's MySpace. 6. Jetpack UK - "Destroy Your Hideout" Jetpack UK aren't from the UK at all...their from Nashville TN. They play Brit-pop flavored rock with energetic hooks and infectious melodies. Hear more from Jetpack UK's MySpace. 7. David Garza - "Jezebel Grin" David (that's Dah-veed) Garza is one of my favorite singer-songwriter's. One time I caught him perform and I was chatting with him beforehand, he asked what I wanted to hear so I ran off about a dozen or so songs I wouldn't mind hearing...he played them all. This song from David Garza's box set A Strange Mess of Flowers. This boxed set is fillled with outtakes and rarities, if you're not familiar with his work I would start with one of his previous albums (4-Track Manifesto, This Euphoria, or Overdub) before picking this one up. I could go on forever, but I won't, read more about David from his old Atlantic Records page. Hear some rarities from David Garza's MySpace 8. Man Man - "I'd Rather Go Blind" (Get the Mp3 from Man Man's MySpace) Yes, that's the Etta James classic they're covering. This Philly act have been compared to Tom Waits, Captain Beefheart, and Frank Zappa. They've also been lauded for their notorious live shows. They recorded this song just for the hell of it, if you haven't picked up they're album Six Demon Bag I suggest you do so. 9. The Notwist - "Pilot" This band originally formed near Munich as a hardcore punk band, gradually they began to embrace a fusion of classic '80s indie-pop songwriting and electronic backings. This song is from one of the best (and overlooked) albums of 2003 (Neon Golden). Fans of Radiohead or Erlend Oye might enjoy this one. Hear more from The Notwist's MySpace. 10. The Horrors - "Full Moon" This is an organ heavy garage rock number from a much hyped London quartet. This demo is their catchiest song to date. Hear more from The Horrors MySpace.</itunes:subtitle>

Baby Dayliner - "Go On Baby" I don't know a whole lot about Baby Dayliner (aka Ethan Marunas), I know he's from New York, this song is off the album Critics Pass Away, and it reminds me of some of the synth pop I used to listen to as a teen. Hear more from Baby Dayliner's MySpace. 2. Danielson - "Trumpet" (Mp3 courtesy of Secretly Canadian Records) Well, this song already made it's way around the music blogs, but I had already thrown it in this mix, so give it a listen again. Kelley Polar - "Tyurangalila" This song is from Kelley Polar's 2005 album Love Songs of the Hanging Gardens. It was easily one of my favorite albums of 2005. I love the hook towards the end, where Polar repeats the verse "I can't til your back here in the dark with me". Fans of Erlend Oye might want to pick this one up. Hear this song and others from Kelley Polar's MySpace. 6. Los Bunkers - "Te Vistes Y Te Vas" This South American Spanish rock band have drawn comparisons to The New Pornographers and Weezer, but I think they've got a few more things in common with (the now defunct rock band) Zudrok. They make catchy indie-rock...hear samples from eMusic or visit their Official Site. 7. The Blood Arm - "Can I Unwind" (Mp3 courtesy of band's website) The Blood Arm are an L.A. underground garage rock flavored quartet, they are not to be missed when they come through your town. Hear more from The Blood Arm's MySpace. 8. El Perro del Mar - "God Knows" (Get the Mp3 from El Perro del Mar MySpace) El Perro del Mar is from Gothenburg, Sweden. She released a split vinyl single with Jens Lekman a few years back...it has since sold out. This track is from the EP entitled You Gotta Give To Get. On the 10th of April her self-titled album will finally be released in UK and Europe (in France on the 9th of May) on the British label Memphis Industries. 9. Vic Thrill - "Circus of Enlightenment" Vic Thrill & The Saturn Missile are the definition of an underground band. Despite their allegiance to the sub-culture, they have been discovered by major promoters and publications with recent shows in Italy opening for Iggy & The Stooges, they opened for Devo at The Hammerstein Ballroom (NYC), The Amsterjam (NYC) w/Peaches, Snoop Dogg, Gogol Bordello, Red Hot Chili Peppers and more. The groupâs last record CE-5 (Circus Clone Records) was ranked Top Ten of 2003 by The Washington Post and received praise from many respected publications such as NME, which described it âLike Bentley Rhythm Ace and The Boggs covering songs from Oh Brother Where Art Thou...clever catchy space-funk fusions of everything from Eastern European folk to world music rhythms...weird.â? *From NPR - Vic recently signed a movie deal with Paramount Pictures and a book deal with Random House, telling the story of his life from 1998-2004 when he was living in an old gas station that served as band headquarters and ââa thrift shop version of the Warhol Factoryâ?, known as The Vic Thrill Salon. The book, due September 1st, is forecasted for release in the winter of 2006 and the movie sometime soon after. Producing the movie are Lorne Michaels and John Goldwyn with Tina Fey (SNL, Mean Girls) writing the screenplay. The story is set around the Salon and focuses on Vic's friendship with a young Hasidic man who, under Vic's guidance, morphed into something of a cult hero on the Brooklyn underground music scene (this story aired years ago on This American Life). The film will feature much of the bandâs music and Vic himself will play a large role in the production as Co-Producer, Co-Music Supervisor and Executive Producer of the soundtrack album. This track is from their album Circus Of Enlightenment...hear more from Vic Thrill's MySpace.</itunes:subtitle>

Influenced by Buffalo Springfield, the band began to interpret the music of the west coast rock, while singing the songs in Japanese. The band released their first self-titled album in 1970, their second album "Kaze Machi Roman" is hailed by fans and critics as a masterpiece of Japanese rock. By 1972 Happy End had called it quits. I found a link to this fansite MySpace, where you can download this song and a few others. 4. Owen - "I Woke Up Today" You may recognize Chicago's Mike Kinsella from the handful of bands he's played with, including: Cap'n Jazz, Joan of Arc, The One Up Downstairs, American Football, Owls, Maritime, or Aloha. Owen is his solo project, this track is taken from the Polyvinyl Summer/Fall 2005 Compilation. 5. Pilotdrift - "Passenger Seat" I don't know much about this band, beyond the fact that they opened for Supergrass the last time they were in my town and that this song is incredibly infectious. Radiohead fans might dig this. For kicks, head over to their Official Site and figure out how to navigate your way around. Hear more songs from their MySpace. 6. The Research - "I Love You But..." This track is from his debut solo album Oso and it will linger in your head long after it's over. 9. Viva L'American Death Ray Music - "Push and Pull" This is really great garage rock tune from a band that I believe is no longer together. You can hear snippets from eMusic or hear a track from this MySpace.</itunes:subtitle>

6. The Research - "I Love You But..." (Get the Mp3 Courtesy of Marathon Packs) The research make happy-go-lucky, Casio-friendly, elegantly crafted pop songs, don't belive me? Hear more from their MySpace. 7. Ciaran Flynn - "Stay the Night" (Get the Mp3 from Ciaran Flynn's MySpace) Ciaran Flynn is a singer-songwriter from Dublin, Ireland and I don't know much else about him beyond the fact that I like this song alot. 8. Joselo - "Muerete" (Get the Mp3 from Joselo's MySpace) You may know Joselo as a member of the world famous band Cafe Tacuba. This track is from his debut solo album Oso and it will linger in your head long after it's over. 9. Viva L'American Death Ray Music - "Push and Pull" This is really great garage rock tune from a band that I believe is no longer together. You can hear snippets from eMusic or hear a track from this MySpace.</itunes:summary>

The Late Night Sounds February Mix 2006 Tracklisting: 1. Jens Lekman - "The Opposite of Halellujah" This track is off Jens Lekman's very first EP on Hidden Cameras label Evil Evil. This song (which is the name of the EP) has this wonderful hand clapping, Northern Soul-esque rhythm that I'm particularly fond of. I highly recommended picking this one up. Purchase The Opposite of Halellujah EP here. I don't know who's running these MySpace accounts and I'm sure everyone who knows me is sick of me going off about Jens, but head over to this first MySpace page and checkout "Maple Leaves 7Inch" and on this second MySpace give a listen to "Sweet Summer Night"...'Oh, I still remember Regulate with Warren G.'...oh yeah, that's what I'm talking about. 2. The Australian trio desribe their sound as a fusion of scuzzy disco, post-post-punk, electric lovers rock, and sweet space pop...you can hear what they sound like for yourself from their MySpace. 3. El Otro Yo - "No Me Importa Morrier" This is a classic El Otro Yo song from their 1999 album Abrecaminos. The Argentinian trio play poppy punk (think The Buzzcocks or The Ramones) en espanol. Hear more from their MySpace, you can download this song there. 4. Adonis Cross - "The Wizard of Flaws" Fans of Aimee Mann or Jon Brion will love this track from Adonis Cross' soon to be released studio album, tentatively titled "The Wizard of Flaws". You can hear this song and others from his GarageBand page or more from his MySpace. 5. Cold War Kids - "The Soloist in the Living Room" (Mp3 courtesy of 3hive) This quartet have sound thats reminiscent of The Walkmen, or maybe it's just a similiar vocal delivery? Hear more their MySpace. 6. Jim Noir - "I Me You I'm Yours" Fans of the Pernice Brothers or The Shins should definitly check this guy out. He's definitly working that '60s jangly pop angle. The band formed in September of 1978 and their unusual line-up featured both double guitars and double basses. This classic post-punk tune was originally released as single and now a newly released collection gathers the groups singles, Peel sessions, and live recordings. Purchase the album here. 9. Man Man - "Engwish Bwudd" This band made their way around the music blogs last month with tracks from their forthcoming album Six Bag Demon, which releases this month.
We're kicking off the new year with a new Late Night Sounds format...hope you like it. I've inserted links to bands' sites and included some Mp3's (if I could find 'em)...so give it a listen or checkout the artists on your own. Late Night Sounds January Mix Tracklisting: 1. Patrick Wolf - "Tristan" This is from Patrick Wolf's sophmore album Libertine and I imagine the only reason it didn't make my year end list was because I neglected to listen to it enough...recommended for fans of Depeche Mode. 2. Nightmare of You - "Thumbelina" I had a copy of their 3 song demo lying around for awhile before I got around to listening to it...that was just plain stupid. They now have a debut album available, which I have since picked up...you can hear all their melodramadic '80s influenced tracks for yourself from their MySpace page and find links to more tunes from their official site as well as their purevolume page. 3. Richard Hawley - "The Nights Are Cold" (Exclusive website only track) Former...

Richard Hawley - "The Nights Are Cold" (Exclusive website only track) Former-Pulp sideman Richard Hawley released one of the best albums of last year (Coles Corner), which coincidentally I forgot all about when my iPod broke down on me. You can listen to Hawley croon like Roy Orbison with exclusive dowloadable tracks recorded for just his website, aside from this song be sure to grab "Darlin" and "It's Over Love". 4. Los Super Elegantes- "Por Que Te Vas" This is a classic tune from Los Super Elegantes debut album , they describe their sound as mariachi-pop-punk and you can listen to this song and others from their MySpace page. 5. The Noisettes - "Don't Give Up" This sounds like Billie Holiday fronting a garage rock band, this song is from the UK trio's EP , listen to this track and more from their MySpace page. 6. Josh Rouse - "Oh I Need All of the Love" This is off his new limited edition EP Bedroom Classics II, you can hear tracks from the EP from his MySpace page. 7. Final Fantasy - "Furniture" This is from the debut album (Has A Good Home) from Owen Pallett (string arranger for the Arcade Fire, guitarist/vocalist from Les Mouches, and member of: Internet, Picastro, The Jim Gutherie Band, Hidden Cameras and King Tut...phew). The album consists solely of Pallett, his violin and a trusty looping pedal and is filled with catchy melodies. Hear some tracks from his MySpace page. 8. The Rock N Roll Soldiers - "Funny Little Feeling" This catchy rock n roll tune is from their album The Two E.P.'s...hear more from their MySpace page. 9. Herman Dune - "Suburbs With You" (courtesy of official site) I love Herman Dune and you should too! This track is from a June BBC session and there are more equally as good tracks from that session posted on his website so go there...right now. 10. Kelley Polar - "Here in the Night" I heard an advanced copy of this album and it' s been on my regular rotation ever since...highly recommended for fans of funky electro dance party music.
