Welcome to the final edition of ENOUGH ROPE. Ben Stiller is serious in just about every way. He is a serious director, a serious on screen talent whose movies have grossed almost two billion dollars and by his own admission a serious guy who simply does not know how to tell a joke - and yet he is one of the most popular film comedians of all time.

All the best stories begin with the words once upon a time and this is no exception. It is a story about two great lovers, one an artist of incredible gifts, the other his muse and of the daughter that became parent to them both. It is about sex, beauty, wanderlust, tragedy and one garden that now lies at the centre of it all and it begins once upon a time, two rebellious teenagers met in a bohemian coffee shop. Ladies and gentlemen, Wendy Whiteley.

Welcome to another ENOUGH ROPE On the Road special. Our chance to get out of the studio and talk to people in different parts of Australia to see how they are managing with the most difficult subject - Life 101. Over the last 18 months I have been visiting one of the most isolated and spectacular regions in Australia, the Kimberley Ranges. Three thousand kilometres north of Perth, 800 kilometres south-west of Darwin, the West Autralian township of Kununurra has only existed since 1961. Originally built as a service town for the Ord River irrigation scheme, Kununurra, a community of 7000, sits in the middle of ancient red rocks carved through by rivers and waterfalls. It is a physical landscape that is awesome to see.

What he missed was a sport about fractions of millimetres, a high stakes high risk often brutal game where a split second of bad luck or timing can derail everything. Stuart Appleby, one of the best golfers we have produced, knows the same is true of life.

When it was released, most of the world was shocked by this image. [Show image] But Dr Philip Zimbardo saw it and recognised it from his own work. He then set out to try and defend the soldier who did it. Please welcome a psychologist who has dedicated much of his career to answering the question - what makes good people turn evil? The creator of the famous Stanford Prison Experiment, Dr Philip Zimbardo.

Such is the case with Dawn French, a woman with an enviable love of life.

A recent poll found that when it comes to public trust, journalists rank almost at the bottom of the pile, just above politicians and sex workers, but below psychics and astrologers. If that poll had been about Chris Masters, perhaps the result would have been different. For the last 25 years his work has helped call those in power to account, setting a standard for professional integrity that few have matched. And now at 60 he has announced his retirement. What have his years staring into the secret parts of Australia taught him?

In 1971 George Miller, a young medical student, won a spot in Australias first filmmaking workshop. There he was given a roll of film, two minutes and forty five seconds long and told to tell a story. The result was extraordinary - a completely finished film, edited in camera, the likes of which his tutor Phil Noyce has never again witnessed. All I could see, said Noyce, was a film genius. Since then, that medical student has brought us Mad Max, Babe, Bodyline, Bangkok Hilton and Happy Feet to name but a few.

Some men, a very few are born to bring wonder into our lives. Philippe Petit is just such a man. In 1974 he astonished the world by illegally rigging a high wire between the New York Twin Towers and walking, not just walking but running almost dancing across it. His life before and since has been a remarkable work of art.

The self described maverick, many patients see him as a miracle worker. Yet to his fellow neurosurgeons, he is a magnet for controversy. To see what makes him tick let us turn the tables and go inside the mind of Dr Charlie Teo.

You might want to get your diaries out for this. In two days time there is a tiny possibility that the world may end. That is when the large Hadron Collider, the biggest machine ever built is going to be switched on underneath the Swiss Alps in an effort to recreate the big bang right here on Earth. It could destroy the world, it might explain the Universe. Truth is no-one knows exactly what it will do but Professor Brian Cox has a better idea than most.

In the last 12 months newspapers have brought us stories of kids beaten or starved to death with uncomfortable regularity. This year, there will be 250,000 reports of child abuse and neglect in Australia - 50,000 of those reports will be substantiated - 30,000 children are tonight in State care, twice the number of a decade ago. What can be done? Sue Mannion, Gary Hall and Professor Dorothy Scott are all on frontline of the problem and they have some ideas.
